What You Need to Know About Dance Floors:

At most events that require a dance floor, generally from one third to one half of your guests will be dancing at one time. When planning your dance floor size consider the guests that will be attending your event. Will your guests be a little shy about dancing or may even need encouragement from the band or disc jockey to participate? Or are you worried that your guests will have to fight to get on the dance floor. If you expect shy or hesitant dancers, plan for a dance floor that will accommodate one third of your guests. If your guests love to dance, plan on a dance floor that will accommodate half of your guests to dance at one time.

The next thing you will need to determine is how much space do you have for a dance floor? A compromise in dance floor size may have to be made to allow enough space for your entertainment, dance floor and other furniture and equipment needed for you event. Also, beware of "built in" obstacles such as posts, pillars, stairways, planters or furniture that cannot be moved. These obstacles may play a part in what size dance floor will be used.

When using dance floors inside consider what type of surface will the dance floor be installed on. While the floor is being dance on, it can move back and forth ever so slightly. This may cause a problem when installed over hardwood or marble floors.

The dance floors that Purdon's rents are not water proof. Therefore, they must be installed inside or under tents. When dance floors are used in tents they must be placed a minimum of 10 feet from the edge of the tent to prevent water damage.

Please don't hesitate to ask our event staff any other questions you may have about dance floors. Our courteous event staff is available to answer any other questions you may have about dance floors by phone during our business hours at 859-266-1197 or send us an e-mail with your question and we will get you an answer as quickly as possible.

What You Need To Know About Tents:

When planning a special event in a tent our event staff will help you determine the correct size tent for you event. No one wants a tent that is too large and no one wants a tent that is too small. Purdon's offers every customer that rents a tent a computer generated floor plan customized specifically for their event.

First we have to determine what will happen under the tent. Then we work with the customer to determine how to provide tent coverage in the most efficient manner.

There are many questions that must be answered when determining what size tent will be needed for you event:

  • How many guests will attend the event?
  • How many guests will be seated at the event?
  • Will they be seated at tables?
  • Will they be seated 8 per table or 10 per table?
  • Will they be seated in a classroom or auditorium style?
  • Is space needed for guests that will be left standing?
  • Do you need space for a band or disc jockey?
  • Do you need space for staging in the tent for a speaker?
  • Do you need space for a dance floor?
  • Will you be having a seated dinner served by wait staff or will you be having a buffet?
  • Will you need tables for beverages or bars?
  • Will a table for the wedding cake go in the tent?
  • Will a table for a grooms cake go in the tent?
  • Will you need tables for gifts in the tent?
Are there other items that will need additional space in the tent such as coat check, registration area or maybe displaying silent auction items?

After we have determined the amount of square feet that will be needed to house your event, we then need to determine what style of tent you prefer.

Determine Which Style of Tent:

Frame tents consists of a vinyl tent top stretched over a metal frame and have unobstructed space underneath the tent. Frame tents are easily installed over concrete or asphalt with a minimum of stakes and ropes.

Push Pole Tents are generally larger tents made of vinyl and supported by a series of poles around the perimeter of the tent and in the center of the tent. Push Pole Tents Require more space around the perimeter of the tent for stakes and ropes.

Many events require a combination of the two types of tents working together to provide the proper amount of space for your event.

A FREE no obligation site survey is available to help you determine what size or style of tent is best for your location and type of event. Please call our office during regular business hours at 859-266-1197 to arrange for this service
